My son will reveal how much fun Senior Primary had with the beach ball activity!
Love it.
This activity can be used when teaching a new song.
How I used the beach ball:
Now that I have been the chorister for about a year and a half, I have learned that simple ideas that don't cost anything tend to work the best. I already had a beach ball at home, it was a simple idea, and they loved it and learned the song really well. Enjoy!
This activity can be used when teaching a new song.
- Show them what the song sounds like.
- Practice the song with the children.
- Tell them that if they start to memorize the song, or if they articulate the words really well, they can play with the beach ball.
- Ultimately, review a little of the song, play a little bit with the beach ball, repeat.
How I used the beach ball:
- I usually have two rows of children for Senior Primary. The front row turned around and faced the back row.
- We sang a classic song, "Popcorn Popping," and the children would lightly "set" the beach ball (just like you would in volleyball, but not too high) to each other. They only set the ball every other line, starting on the second line. This is a great song for this, because the beach ball lightly pops in the air, like popcorn :)
- Another way to play with the beach ball is to show red and green signs to signal "stop" and "go" for setting the ball while singing "Popcorn Popping." When the red sign is shown, whoever has the ball has to hold it until they see a green sign.
- I let them know that if they didn't obey the rules, they wouldn't get to play the beach ball activity. They did a great job altogether!
