Week 1
The song for January is set up with questions and answers.
How could the Father tell the world of love and tenderness?
He sent His Son, a newborn babe, with peace and holiness.
How could the Father show the world the pathway we should go?
He sent his Son to walk with men on earth, that we may know.
How could the Father tell the world of sacrifice, of death?
He sent his Son to die for us and rise with living breath.
What does the Father ask of us? What do the scriptures say?
Have faith, have hope, live like his Son, help others on their way.
What does he ask?
Live like his Son.

Introduce the Song
I asked three hypothetical questions to help the children ponder why Heavenly Father sent them to earth. The goal was to have them explain to someone that doesn't have a body, and has never been to earth (think premortal existence)...
The children thought it was a perplexing task. They ended up deciding that it would be best for someone to experience those things for themselves. This helped them to better understand why Heavenly Father sent them to earth, rather than simply be told about love, sacrifice, etc.
- what "cold" feels like?
- what "love" is?
- what "sacrifice" is?

Sing in fun ways!
Junior Primary Half of the class stood to sing the questions, while the rest of the class stood to sing the answers. Senior Primary I knew the older children wouldn't want to stand like the younger children. Instead, I let a volunteer choose a color. Whoever wore that color sang the questions, whoever didn't, sang the answers. |
Week 2
Review and reveal more doctrine
I reminded the children that experience is the best way to learn. I then told them that experience is not always fun, desired, or easy. I told them that there is hope, though! The atonement of Jesus Christ can help with every experience in our lives.
Sing and play games!
"Trial" Card (Alma 7: 11 -13):
| "Help" Card
|
We then played hide and seek while learning about the scriptures. Luckily, this activity provided a lot of participation! One child picked a "trial" card, one picked a "help" card, one hid the "help" card, and one person was the seeker.
We sang the song, and when the seeker was close to the "help" card, we sang louder. The farther away the child was, the softer we sang. After the card was found, we read the scripture.
The children had fun playing hide and seek, and we had wonderful discussions about Jesus Christ.
