Grab a toy from the toy box and teach a short, spiritual lesson for Family Home Evening. Here are five ideas of what you can teach with toys :)
What is your Spiritual Foundation?Show that hammers aid in building foundations for structures. Teach that the strength of a building depends on its foundation. Read the scripture from Helaman 5:12 and discuss how the Savior should be our spiritual foundation. Share experiences about how keeping Jesus Christ as the rock of your spiritual foundation has helped you throughout your life. |
Obedience to take FlightPilots have to obey the laws of nature in order to maintain flight. For example, they have to stay above predefined air speeds with certain flap settings in order to avoid stalling. To stall out can mean a loss of control, which could lead to a crash. If we obey the laws of God by keeping the commandments and following the teachings of Jesus Christ, we can be spiritually uplifted, just like the plane that follows natural laws takes flight. |
Build your TestimonyGrab some lego's and build your testimony! Use each lego as an example of how a testimony is built. One piece could be reading the scriptures, faith, repentance, praying, fasting, etc. Show that just like the building can be stronger with more lego's, we can be spiritually stronger to withstand the temptations and trials of life when we strengthen our testimonies. |
The Little Engine that Could, with God's HelpI threw a toy train to my husband when it was his turn to teach the lesson, and he talked about the “Little Engine that Could.” He used his arm as an incline and showed the train struggle its way up the "mountain." Instead of just using the portion of the story to say, “I think I can,” it was changed to “With Heavenly Father, I can.” He then taught that Heavenly Father will help us with the mountains, or trials that come in our lives. |
