I watched a musical presentation about the life of Jesus Christ last Sunday. When the children sang "Mary's Lullaby" I began to cry. The song is about Mary singing a sweet song to the baby, Jesus. The lyrics describe her love for Him, explain that He has a Heavenly Father, and tell of what His life would be like. Here is a tender part of the song:
Thy gentle head shall wear a crown
For thy Father is a King
Thy tender hands so tiny now
Have blessings great to bring
I thought of how the only sinless one wore a crown of thorns. I thought of my sweet son and how heartbreaking it would be to see him in pain. I understood why the scriptures emphasize the offering of sacrifices. Heavenly Father offered the greatest sacrifice, the life of His perfect son.
My tears weren't only for the pain that the Savior went through, but that He overcame the world. My faith was strengthened as I realized that no pain that we suffer on earth will last forever. Jesus Christ will never have to wear a crown of thorns again. The crown is now a glorious one.
Heavenly Father offered the life of Jesus Christ because it would give us the greatest blessings. The atonement of Jesus Christ gives us power over spiritual and physical death through repentance and the resurrection. I am thankful that the Savior offers everyone the greatest gift of all, eternal life.
