My goal for Family Home Evening (FHE) is to have an interactive, fun, spiritual activity. A couple of weeks ago, we made pizza dough and talked about a parable that the Savior taught. "The Kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened" (Matt. 13:33).
So much fun to watch the dough kneed!
It was then time to let the dough rise for an hour. This is a good time for families to talk about the Parable of the Leaven. One way to lead the discussion is to compare the process of leavening to, "a means whereby the Spirit of Truth is made effective" (Talmage, 2006).
In my experience, learning heavenly truths takes patience and faith. It takes faith to find out for yourself what is true, and what is not. It takes studying the scriptures, praying about what you read, and acting on the answers to your prayers.
Truth, like dough with leaven, takes time to grow. Every truth that is learned is worth the patience and hard work!

During your discussion, someone can sauté mushrooms, and others can build the pizza when the dough is ready.
As you eat your homemade pizza, it will be easy to think about the spiritual truths that have grown within your heart. I hope you have a wonderful/tasty Family Home Evening!
